Three thing not to miss while in Nice!
If you come to visit Nice for only a week or a week-end, it might be a bit overwhelming since there is so much to see and so much to do! Of course you want to get the most out of your stay, but it can be hard to choose when you have a guide book with a hundred “must do’s” but only a few days to benefit. If you come here to study French at Azurlingua you will have even less time to explore since you go to class every day. Well, no worries, here’s a list of the three things you just can’t miss while visiting Nice!
1. Vieux Ville (Old Town)
This is the old part of Nice, filled with bars, restaurants, cafés, small boutiques and art galleries. The old town can simply be described as the city’s beating heart. It is portrayed by colorful Italian houses, some as old as from the 16th century. Here and there you can also catch a glimpse of influences from the Baroque period. Downtown’s center is based on Course Saleya, a market square in the southern part of Old Town. This is where you find most of the restaurants and
during the day, the famous flower market. There are lots of things to see in these old parts of Nice. The Cathédrale Sainte-Réparte is a baroque cathedral from the 17th century and the Palais Lascaris is a 18th century palace with a very impressive interior. Furthermore, the Palais de Justice is an example of the magnificent empire that once ruled. Likewise, the opera house from 1855, Opéra de Nice, located close to Course Saleya, is a masterpiece of its own.
2. The Chagall Museum
The Chagall museum is a modern museum with bright open spaces. It is built with glass and placed in a beautiful garden. Marc Chagall donated 17 works to the French state who decided to build a museum in honour of him in Nice. Here you can also find beautiful sculptures, mosaics, engravings, lithographs and much more.
3. Hotel Negresco
Hotel Negresco is one of the leading hotels in the world. The building is listed by the French government as a National Historical Building. The hotel is situated on the world famous Promenade des Anglais, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The luxuries suites and the beautiful interior design attracts tourist from all over the world. Even if staying in one of the very expensive rooms at Hotel Negresco is not an option for everybody, the hotel is still worth a visit. The white building with its pink dome is a beautiful sight.
